The Mother Daughter Book Club: Home for the Holidays

On my trip to New York I saw the broadway play, Seminar. The main character is a writing teacher played by Alan Rickman. He judjes a book by the first sentence. If he gets bored he dose not read the book or even the rest of the page. So last week when I whent to the book sale I tried to look for a book with a good opening sentence that makes you want to read more, I found one called, Home for the Holidays. This book is great. The author dose a great job with the characters. The main characters name is Becca. Becca has to deal with all of the drama that happens at school and the fact that her dad is a pizza delivery man but gets threw it all by being with her friends. Becca and her friends attend a book club and have started reading the Betsy-Tacy Books.......I can not tell you the general idea of the whole story because I just got it and have not gotten very far yet. I hope that you like this book just as much as I am!

CHRISTMAS

Grinch.jpegI know that it is not Christmas yet but it is coming soon. I make cookies, go sledding, enjoy zoo lights, and I like to Read Christmas stories. A couple of my favorite stories to read before the holidays are, A Christmas Carol, Holly and Ivy, The Nutcracker, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.  A Christmas Carol is a great book to read if you haven't yet because it is a classic. Ebenezer Scrooge is a man that is grumpy and is mean but than finds out the true meaning of Christmas and is a great book to read either by yourself or with the whole family. Holy and Ivy is a another great story of a girl who gets a doll for Christmas. This book is written extremely well is a fantastic book to read if you have not already. The Nutcracker is another great classic. I bet that you have heard of this story before, even if you have not read it, you know the famous story or have seen the ballet. For anyone that has seen the ballet, you know already how amazing it is and the book is just as good. I wish that they would have made a play witch they showed the ballet and read the story along with it. Last, but certainly, not least, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. This book is written by the author Dr. Sews and is one that will last you from when you are little to when you are old. It is a delightful tale about the Grinch and how he plans to ruin Christmas but in the end turns to love this great holiday. These books are great to read before the Holidays and I hope that you will enjoy them just as much as I have.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter is my all time favorite book and I have read the series three times. These books captivate the reader into a whole new world like no other, you feel like you are actually walking down hogs mead with Harry and walking up the changing stairwells. This book is amazing like no other, the characters are so well done, and you cannot stop reading because every bit just gets better and better. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is just terrific, You experience what J.K. Rowling has shown you in the books. Everything is perfect, the butter bear tastes great and all of the little shops are replicas of the ones in the movies, from chocolate frogs to pigmy puffs. These books are ones that have been part of my childhood from going to a midnight party to getting a dog named Sirius, after Sirius Black. I highly recommend Harry Potter to everyone.

The Heroes of Olympus

The son of Neptune comes out today and I am so excited!! I am still reading The Lost Hero but I should finish it by tomorrow. I pre ordered The Son of Neptune but it didn't arrive yet witch is probably better because other wise I would be so tempted to take a peek. The Lost Hero just got better, more intense. This book is NOT like the movies when the sequel comes out it is horrible, this is the complete opposite it is just so good. I am going to let you enjoy your night while I finish up the reading so good night.

Percy Jackson

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan is one of the best series I have ever read. This series brings Greek mythology into modern times. These books are great for fourth graders to high schoolers. I remember when I was in fourth grade waking up at 4:00 a.m., splashing water on my face to make sure that I wouldn't fall asleep, because, well, at 4:00 a.m. you should go to bed but, well, as you might realize, if you are reading a phenomenal book, you simply cannot put it down. I am now in seventh grade, and there is a new follow up series by Rick Riordan called The Heroes of Olympus and it's like deja vu, you cannot put it down. These books are a mix of a comedy and action. The characters, you care about, and the action is so great that you feel like you are at a 3D movie. Everything Rick Riordan writes comes to life on the page. Here's his website.  His new book, called The Son of Neptune, will be coming out October 4, 2011. There is still time to read all the books before then.
